The UK Long Term Residence regime and how it has transformed the previous “non-dom” tax landscape

In this webinar, we are joined by David Goepel, Eva Moynihan and Toni Recchia from Edwin Coe, who provide a recap of the UK’s new tax regime for internationally connected individuals - introduced in the October 2024 Budget - and outline how it is working in practice.

The session covers the key features of the reforms, their implications for non-domiciled individuals and share insights to help inform adviser conversations and client strategies.

Learning objectives:
  • Explain the key features of the UK Long Term Residence (LTR) regime and identify the principal differences between the new residence-based system and the previous non-dom regime
  • Describe the impact of the LTR regime on inheritance tax, foreign income and gains, and the treatment of internationally mobile clients
  • Assess the implications of the Foreign Income and Gains (FIG) regime, transitional provisions and long-term residence rules when advising clients with offshore assets, trusts and cross-border interests
  • Evaluate potential planning strategies, including offshore bonds, family investment companies, trusts and residence planning, to help clients manage tax exposure under the new regime
